Motorcycle Collisions
In 2008, there were 98 motorcycle fatlities in Colorado, continuing a trend of increasing motorcycle fatalities. Nationally, this trend has continued for the past ten years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Admisitration reports that 50% of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with another type of motor vehicle in transport. In two-vehicle crashes, 78% of the motorcycles involved were struck in the front. And over 90% of all two-vehicle crashes involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle in which the motorcycle rider died occurred on non-interstate roadways. More than half of the motorcycle crashes resulting in motorcyclist fatality occur at intersections.
The common factor in most motorcycle accidents involving a second vehicle is the failure of the other driver to register the presence of the motorcycle. Most motorcyclists who are involved in accidents are not the at-fault driver, but the vicitm.
Riding a motorcycle is not the same as driving a car, and we understand the implications of those differences when reconstructing a motorcycle accident and presenting the case to the jury. While we may not put on leathers and go for a run every weekend, we have successfully represented many clients that do, and would welcome the opportunity to help you.
